BUDDHISM IN THE MANDALAY PERIOD (1852-1885): A CRITICAL ASSESSMENT

Based on Myanmar Buddhist context, the meaning of Pali word Sasana refers to set teachings Buddha which has been considered intact in its purest form since it originated from Himself. As time went by, said precepts might have faced some modifications according taste and liking those who embraced it. a result, is not assured that context still original form. history had depicted 19th century as an era Buddhism where flourished like Sun Moon, so speak. Furthermore, was refined propagated during reign Mandalay Kings particularly King Mindon’s (1853-1878). While kingdom’s political economic state were unstable, king his people made significant investments various kinds religious works merit-making. Although every stood protector religion supported Sangha (community monks), extent Mindon devoted efforts support raised many questions. An analysis allegation would entail gaining in-depth insights into beliefs practices by Period, role preservation, protection Sasana.
